place a laurel wreath upon your head. you are sacred.

quite a few years ago, i placed a laurel leaf on one of mymaddogz to signify strength and high self-esteem. a quality i lacked due to childhood sexual abuse and the traumatic memories and self destructive experiences that followed.

because i struggle with memory issues, which is actually one of the reasons i paint – to recall pleasant ones and make some sense of my life, i had no recollection of this image but was reminded by a friend this morning.

connecting and loving another on a spiritual level is a critical element to healing our soul.

we are spiritual beings. the body is just a shell.

mymaddogz were conceptualized as protectors of one s ( my ) authentic self.  they are the guardians of the soul. they are childlike and goofy representations of the many different sides of me/you.

like fu dogs, they sit on either side of you. one on the earthly present side and the other in a parallel universe, where spirit lives.

they were born out of my desire to free up my mind to paint more freely, more authentically.

because of this journey, i ve connected with some beautiful givers committed to helping heal others that have experienced trauma to their psyche due to childhood sexual trauma. i honor the work they do everyday and fight back against negative thought telling me that my work is self indulgent.

yesterday, this beautiful soul asked for prayer for her foundation, phoenix rising. i remarked that we were rising up together as today is the first time i present mymaddogz poem.

her foundation helps survivors of human trafficking become whole.

that s mymaddogz story right there.

a journey to find the piece that was stolen. hidden somewhere within, making it necessary to turn insides out and outsides in, to find it.

there is power in this connection

after googling, i discovered laurel wreaths were placed not only on an athletes head but also on the head of one before a poetry meet.

this blows me away!

happy day!

i am placing a laurel wreath upon your heads so you, too, might feel the loving power and strength of the universe.
